Returning To My Vision
Oh hi there. It's been about 300 days or so since I last wrote to you. I gave you a giant list of topics, said I'd write about all of them, and then * poof * I disappeared from your inbox.
As The Dude would say, new shit came to light. I had to make a few professional pivots, learn a few lessons, kick some ass, and lead an absolutely incredible team through a grueling yet successful year. A year that we're all damn proud of yet also glad to have almost entirely in the rearview mirror, because the view ahead is clearer and perhaps calmer.
Even as I sprint to the finish line of a year that felt like a marathon, I've been thinking about what I'll write to you. A letter I've been mulling over most of this year is drafted (2,000+ words), and in need of some serious editing. I'm not committing to any sort of publication schedule, but I'll be publishing some real, raw words here. Words I believe need to be said in a space that's solely my own. Words I expect will surprise each and every single one of you in some way, no matter how well you know me.
In preparation, I dusted off the brand created for this project. Because of course, I prepared a creative brief and hired a designer. I'm a marketer at heart after all, and I adore being able to compensate people for their talents. It probably doesn't surprise any of you that two of the inspirations for the look and feel of the Elder Millennial Leader brand were Taylor Swift's Folklore/Evermore eras and AllBirds shoes. We're going for grounded, calming, and minimal.
Flipping through the style guide, I saw the brand vision. It spoke directly to my soul. For a moment, I doubted that I'd written it. But it turns out I have the receipts.
Inspire leaders—of any age, at any level—to act in ways that respect the dignity of all individuals and positively impact communities and society. Give people the courage to lead differently than they’ve been led. Chart a new course for leadership.
I feel more strongly about this now than ever. I'm glad you're still here. I hope you'll stick around.
